American Government 8/24/09

In Class - Discuss/turn in homework from last Friday (CNN Heroes write-ups (6)). Hand out copies of the QOW comments from last week. Read these in class and discuss in groups.

Survey Project: Each of you are to create a survey of five questions (one must be about health care) and four other governmental issues. You will ask five students (must be at least a HS senior) and fifteen adults these questions. Be sure to include their name, age, and gender on their responses. Example questions: What is the most important issue in the United States right now? Do you think government should be in charge of health care? Why or why not? Be sure to ask questions that are more than yes or no responses. From these questions, I want you to write a minimum of a one page summary explaining the results from your summary. What did you find interesting? Did males answer certain questions differently than females? What surprised you in doing this? Do you think that the public is educated on these issues? This write-up along with all of your surveys are due on Friday, August 28.

Homework - Stay current on your current events. Notebook check on Friday. Also, first class discussion on health care will be on Friday as well. Survey project due on Friday! Stay on top of your assignments!

QOW - Check out the following articles to help you answer the question.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/25/zelizer.democrats.obama/index.html

Based upon what you have read (the articles above and discussions in class), do you believe President Obama is being too ambitious in reforming health care? Is it a "matter of necessity?" If so, do you think that the issue of health care reform is dividing this country at a time when we are experiencing so many problems?

Explain your thoughts, check your spelling, use proper grammar, and use evidence to back up your arguments.

We are losing soo many doctors becasue of the way health care is right now. Doctors are getting paid less and less, because of lack of patients. Docotors are barely making half of what they made 20 years ago. In some way the discussion of universal health care is splitting america apart, because people are startign fights inside townhall meetings. Obama talked about dropping the public opinion on health care, so that they wont have to deal with violance in their townhall meetings. The U.S needs to stop doing unnecessary surgiries that waste money. Wasteful health care spending is bad and if the U.S. can just stop doing that we can save billions to put more money in workers pockets. Many people do not want the government to take over the health care system, but it could be a good thing if everyone has health care. This could bring less spread of diseases aroudn the U.S.. There are always 2 sides to the argument so in theory the U.S. is being divided little by little.

In my opinion President Obama is being way too ambitious. The president has taken way to many things on his plate, especially the health care reform. I thing the government is spending too much time trying to figure out what to do. Eventhough health care has been i large topic in the nation today it is not a necessity to put a public option into play.I think that this is dividing our country because your dealing with peoples health. Many people have very strong opinions about what the government is planning to do with the health care plan. As a country we should stick together and get along and we should be able to express our opinions.

President Obama is not being too ambitious in healthcare reform. In fact, his seriousness in getting the healthcare bill through is just about right. Healthcare in this country is experiencing several problems. Healthcare inflation is 10% per year. And if nothing is done, then fewer and fewer people may be able to pay their insurance bills in the future. What needs to occur is less arguing and more discussing. To fix healthcare, the nation needs ideas from both sides of the political spectrum. This will make people from both sides much happier with what the new healthcare system will look like. Quote someone who wrote to The Press-Enterprise: "your kids will be thankful for it."

In a way, yes obama is being a bit too ambitious. He should do things step by step and not all at once. The cash for clunkers was a success but he did that and health care at the same time. and the result is, is that health care wasnt going anywhere. When it comes to health care being a matter of necessity, yes its necessiary for many citizens or workers because if something happens to them they need there health but it is ruining everyones income because their income is low and the cost for health is getting higher which means more debt. Yes in my opinion the economy is splitting into two, there is more violence with trying to get health care, people having soo much anger and rage against the government and better yet not believeing in obama and his so called changes.

I think that President Obama is being too ambitious in trying to reform health care. I feel that he is refraining from addressing other issues, for example, a migratory reform. Nowhere on the CNN Politics page was I able to find a link concerning a migratory reform (not that it’s the present most important issue in the US), and it bothers me because there’s no progress on it if no one discussed it. The most important one, the economy, is also being overlooked as health care is brought up. The economy, not health care, is a "matter of necessity" right now, along with a lot of other issues that he could be addressing. They would also, im my opinion, come before health care in level of importance. I do think that the issue is dividing the country at a time where we should be uniting instead, working to come up with something that will stimulate the economy. Focusing on just one issue will only lead to a greater separation. Thus, we should pay attention to multiple issues that are linked to each other and see how they can be improved to benefit more people. They also have to then pave the way for a health reform.

I dont think President Obama is being too ambitious, i just think he needs to make sure he has all of the facts needed to make the plan work. Im not sure if his plan will work but if he knows what to do then possibly yes it will work. Because Obama is spending so much time on health care hes not paying attention to the bigger problems going on.
I hope Obamas universal plan will work. Everyone should be able to have health care. In a way yes, i think it is dividing the country. There are alot of public conflicts about problems and I dont think Obama knows how to handle it all. I think Obama should focus on some of the other issues first and then come back to health care. Or maybe think of a plan that will actually work for everyones advantage.

I do not think that president Obama is being to "ambitious". I think that he wants to get the United States out of a Economical crisis and by succeeding in this we need to lower health insurance. I think that health care a big necessity in reforming our society. I disagree with Dana P. Goldman and Neeraj Sood from the RAND company who say "That cutting health care spending would stimulate the economy and that delivering health care means jobs so if they spend less on health care then it means fewer jobs". I disagree because there are many people that don't have jobs and because they don't have jobs they don't have health care. So if the government controls the health care then people without jobs will also have insurance. Which is better then the way we have it now.

I've been hearing that President Obama is being too "ambitious" on how he is preparing solutions for the health care issue. Now i disagree with that saying. Yes he is constructing a universal plan to find and resolve many peoples questions about their health care society, but some of his plan does seem as if he needs more facts to upgrade on his plan. Now there are other issues where Obama needs to focus on as well because theres caos going around do to another issue. In my thought i suggest that Obama should hurry up on his plans on health care because if he doesn't hurry up and spends too much time on that, the other issues will probably grow and start hitting him harder than this issue right now.

Well Id say im half and half. Yes I see where President Obama is being too ambitious because it seems to me like hes promising allot and is confident about this whole reform thing but honestly what is he doing? I read so many arguments and debates on whats going to work and whats not and it seems to be getting nowhere. I know that whatever is decided in the end, not everyone can be satisfied. I also think he's not being ambitious enough because this problem needs to be tackled or its never going to get solved. How long has this issue been going on and not been truly worked out? Its been quite a while. So im neutral. Like I said earlier, not everyone is going to be satisfied and because of that unfortunately our country is going to be divided from any problems.

I dont think that president Obama is being to ambitious. I think he is fighting for a universal right that every human should have, regardless of economic class. The reson that this country is being split on this subject is because perhaps this reform is a little to extreme for some individuals. We have to look at it in a positive way because it seems like he is trying to do good for the people of his country. I dont see why we are judging him if he is trying to help. Yes, theres going to be a negative side, but theres a negetive side to almost everything in the goverment. This can help our country become more halthier and more aware because a lot of people are medicaly ignorant. With universal health care people can be exposed to a greater awarness on how to maintain good health, a longer life, and a healthier way of living.

I think that President Obama's ambition into health care is seen as too ambitious only because of the 'norm' we have fallen into over the last few decades. We've allowed the politics to take over the politicians, and with so many problems with health care, I think that it just SEEMS to be too high a goal, when in reality it is a topic in need of much reform and more support. The confliction born of the debate is a result of resistance from insurance companies and those who sell health care, based on issues of money. While our economy is a vital part of our nation and it's success is a direct factor into OUR success, it should not supercede the needs of the american people on an individual level. In a time where over 1/6 of the American People lack health insurance and those who DO have insurance are driven to the edge - and beyond - by incredible prices, it seems like our 'god given right' of life and the pursuit of happiness are being factored into someones checking account. So, as far as necessity goes, this is one of the most important issues around, whether our economy is in shambles or not. We should not have devision in the country over the same country's citizens' welfare, no matter what the reason. So, Preisdent Obama's large interest in reforming the health care system is well placed, and I hope his perseverence can help bring about the betterment of all Americans' lives.

I think that obama is being to ambitous about the health care reform. There are many other problems out there like the war. We are feeding a war that we shouldn't even be in. In the articles that i read about doctors cutting edges to save money is absurd. Some doctors are even losing jobs cause the number of patients that they have. I personally think that Obama should not put all his time for the healthcare reform. He might be trying to help people that are sick but thats not gonna fix much if he does. What is he going to do about the people losing there houses. There are people losing there houses and do you think if people are losing there houses there gonna be able to afford health care for themeselves or there loved ones. Obama should not spend as much time on the health care reform.

I believe Obama IS being too ambitious about health care. He is trying to push for a health care plan so hard that he is contradicting himself and being hesitant at times. Also, there are and have been huge disagreements and arguments over the issue. It is not only dividing American civilians but also the democratic party. This country cannot be divided with so many other issues going on like war and education. Personally, I think we need to take a step back and breathe. After that, we can try to sort things out and come up with something that works and will be passed at Capitol Hill. This issue is definitely a "make or break" moment for the Obama administration. He has an oppurtunity to gain support if he finds a convenient health care plan. If Obama wants to be ambitious, he needs to have stronger ideas and better planning that will be supported by the American people.

I dont think that Obama is being ambitious i think that he is trying to provide people with better help. i think that health care is a important issue because we are losing doctors and if we are losing doctors we are losing lifes. He is offering people the opportunity to be able to treat a illness that they have by providing them with an insurance that will help them pay for the costs of he bills. although i still think that the economy is the most important issue right now. fixing the economy will firx all the others problems. it is dividing America because some people dont think that it should be the priority but that the recession of the economy should be. i think that the president should take things step by step and the priority first which in my opinion is the eceonomy by fixing that it will be easier to obtain any health plan that will prevent deaths and and illness and people will stop dying and have jobs. by creating this health plan people will be more healthy and will be able to work their jobs and will buy things and will pay taxes that will increase the amount of money the government owes. and also by denying a public option or opinion it will hurt because people wont approve it because everyone is used to picking what they want. just to stop violence in a hall meeting doesnt mean that a public opinion should be denied there are other options or measures that can be taken.

In my opinion, yes Obama is being way too ambitious. He has taken way to many things on his plate at once. This particular issue has to be subtly changed and explained to people in a way that they can understand. That is one of the biggest problems, is that people are way to overwhelmed with the specifics that it is easier to oppose. That is probably why there is so much outrage over this issue as well. Anyways, I think he is expecting Americans to just except this drastic change and it definitely wont be that simple. Its in peoples nature to not want change, when they are clearly comfortable in the position they are at. This issue is a "matter of necessity" among other issues, of course, but i do think that it is dividing our country at a time when we need unity the most.

I feel that Obama is being too ambitious. Obama believes that now is the time to reform the health care system. Though many people disagree with the unverisal healthcare plan, it is a matter of necessity to try and get this bill pass.Once the bill is pass, insurance will be easier for everyone. The last thing Obama needs to do is to find a way to fund the program. Obama's plan is to increase the tax of the wealthier tax payers. Which has begun to create a divided america. Town meets about the health care reform, has caused several acts of violence against the other arguers. Unless the health care plan is reformed to satisfy most of the people, this problem will just grow. Although the health care plan is dividing this nation, once accomplished, this nation will be back on track, and will be able to fix most of the other problems.

I think President Obama is being ambitious in reforming health care. His desire in pursuing his goal in the health-Care has gone a little too far. He should pay attention other issues as well. Such as, unemployment issue, immigration, and the economy. Especially the economy, since we a lot of money to China and Mr. Obama is using it up on Health-care. I don’t really think health care reform is dividing up the country. We got a lot of problem in the U.S. but it won’t divide the country up.

Well first of all i think it kinda is dividing the people because so many of them are getting into arguments wich willl only make things worse. For example obama is already thinking of droping the peoples opinon from this reform so he said in the article of liberals passion for public option. In which i think will only make things worse.Thats the last thing we need another problem. Also about president obama being too "ambitious", well honestly who knows.. but i think not really, i personally think he just thinks by doing this he will help out , i hardly dought it hes doing it to be ambitiouse.Plus isnt this whole point of president obama is to just creat another option offerded to his fellow americans just like the medicare is an option to the 65 or older americans?? thats just a way of him trying to fix stuff up.yet i think obama should try harder and explain further what he is trying to get at or else people wont understand.well obama thinks health care is a necessity, to me honestly no clue but why not give it a chance and see what happens maybe it is a necessity maybe not but lets hope to whatever happens things get better.

I do think that Obama is being a bit ambitious on his attempt to reform health care.Based on past history, with the exception of one, every other president who has attempted a health care reform has ultimately failed. However, isn't it the job of a president to be ambitious and look out for what's best for The People? I think nowadays presidents and many other politicians focus more on keeping their position than on actually doing their job, which is to provide for its citizens. So, although Obama may be setting himself up for possible failure I think it's admirable for him to remain determined on doing what's right or at least what he thinks is right. I really believe health care is something we need to reform whether it's an issue that divides the country or brings us together.Besides, any country no matter how great, will always experience difficult times. Therefore there really isn't any perfect time to do this, the time is now.

I dont think president Obama is being to abitious . I think he's going off of what people want instead of what's really needed . Even though health care is a big issue right now it's something that can be dealt with in the future. The bias opinions for and against Obama's "ambitions" only bash or support the issues. In neutral decision or thought it's a good idea for the reform but the nation has many other necessities to be focussed on.

I do not think Obama is being to ambotious. He is currently fighting to fix the health care system. I think Obama needs to be more ambtitious and fight harder to reform this issue. I do think though, that Obama is spending way to much money on healthcare. He is spending billions of dollars and the country is'nt seeing the results that are suppose to be happening. Health care is a necessity at this time of greef. And this issue is splitting this country apart. From those who need Health care and those who already have it. In the time we're in right now this country shoud be uniting and fighting this issue together. But we all have different opinions in this matter.

Well in my opinion i think President Obama is being too ambitious. But then at the same time is really isnt. The reason is why he is because he is trying his best to pass the bill which is good. Also hes taking everything at one time.Which will cause more problems with him and the nation, well in my opinion. But if you think about he's probably doing whats best for the citizens.By mean on whatever the President Obama decides to do.I think everyone should have the opportunity on deciding to have health care.Because if you've heard still many people are arguing. So we'll see on what happens on that because if you notice theres other situations important as this.

Based on what we have talked about I do believe that Obama is being too ambitious. This is because I do not feel that Obama is pushing the issue hard enough in order to get it passed I think that he should push for reform a lot harder. Obama needs to realize that his bill is not going to get passed right now it is the wrong time in this country to be proposing a $1 trillion plan. We need to be more stable in our economy before we even think about reforming any thing except the employment rate. I believe that this reform is a necessity but Obama isn’t making it seem like it truly is. I also think that this issue is diving the country in a time when we should actually be more united. Every thing works better when we are united like when we were in war we succeeded because we were united. Most of what Obama is doing is not uniting us what he needs to do is find a balance between what he wants and what the voter as a hole want.

I personally believe Obama is doing his job. He was elected President of the UNited States and it is his job to figure out this situation we are in. I do agree he is trying to get this done and over with, but he must also realize what we the people need and dont want to sacrifice. I applaud Obama for his efforts but unfortunately, he can't make everyone happy and giving a "good" reform. No matter what scenario plays out he will make someone unhappy.

Helathcare is a neccesity. As we watched the videos, I was shocked to see how royally screwed over our healthcare system really is. I beleive that it is a privlege to have healthcare in this Country, and unfortunately we must pay a very high amount for said healthcare. I do somewhat agree that this issue is splitting our country at its roots. In the coming weeks and months we will see a more violent reaction at the town hall meetings, very heated debates and overall idiocracy. The reason people will divide, is because no matter what the outcome is on the healthcare issue, Every single person will be affected by it. Whether you have Employer provided insurance or none at all. Every person will be affected in either a positive or negative way.

Many people have said that President Obama is being too ambitious by trying something as radical as reforming health care this early in his presidency. I tend to agree with said people. As stated previously in the last QOW I believe that health care is in need of reform but should not be the top priority at the moment. Their are several other matters that I believe should be addressed first such as the federal income tax system and the immigration system. However, the health care system should be reformed at some point in President Obama's term in office. The issue of health care is controversial at the moment but I do not feel that it divides the American people anymore so than other political issues. At this point the American people are as unified as ever. Unfortunately, as a country we are experiencing some problems though. The main problem would be the steadily declining economy. This is putting immense amounts of stress on the average American more so than health care.

president Obama isn't being ambitious at all, but what he is not doing is being clear as to what the health care reform is going to do. health care is a huge matter of necessity."It may not be obvious that cutting health care spending would stimulate the economy." yes the health care reform is dividing the the country through its strict health regulations on who they can treat and who they can't. like people who are poor or people with pre existing health conditions and also with illegal immigrants and also older people from 30 and up. another kind of area thats being affected is the underpaid doctors. many doctors and physicians have quit do to there salary decreasing. one way to decrease this is cut down on unnecessary medical procedures. one start to change the course of the economic direction is to start with health care. as it is the health care system is the most spent on than any other industrialized nation. if people get fired from the hospital that means a waiting list that will lead up to regular people getting sick and leaving their jobs which then will turn into more unemployment and less productivity. this is a huge reason why health care reform is needed quick.

No, i personally do not think President Obama is being to ambitous. If president Obama is not willing to be ambitous to solve this problem, who will. The more ambition the more likley the problem will be resolved. I think everybody should be more ambitous, if everyone were to be more ambitious i think a bill will be passed sooner. For example, the Blue Dog Demorcrats intentionally had the bill delayed for the fall. What are they waiting for? Do they want the problem to be dragged out for as long as they can? That's only bringing up more issues and causing more anger and frusteration. Therefore, i believe that President Obama's ambition is a positive thing, i think it shows his determination to get the problem resolved.

I do think president Obama is being very ambitious when it comes to health care. Its like deja vu to look at his plan because we saw the same thing in 1994 with president Clinton. When Clinton's bill crashed and burned the democrats took a big hit and lost control of the house for 12 years. Now back in the hands of a democrat we see Obama trying the same plan and he knows that if this plan crashes as Clintons did he will not take the hit the democrats will. Also he is ambitious to push this bill because it is the most widely debated issues and is essentially dividing the country. I fear this division will hurt our other efforts to put our economy back together. However health care is in jeopardy and needs to be dealt with but is reforming the whole system the answer? Some would say yes while others say no and are perfectly happy with their health care.In retrospect i believe Obama is being a bit ambitious with this bill and we may not need so much attention put here but rather focus it on other important areas. But health care certainly need to be fixed i just think Obama is going about it the wrong way.

President Obama is being very ambitious, but he is being ambitious because the american people are putting a lot of pressure on him about the healthcare reform. Just this last week a house rep. held a town meeting in Los Angeles and sent President Obama a message saying that he couldn't please both democrats and republicans. She said that he needs to stop being nice to the Republicans and just go on with the healthcare Reform. President Obama is getting attacked by all angles. The healthcare system is in need of a reform and there is no way around that. People are saying that we are blowing this healthcare thing out of proportion but I disagree. If we don't fix the healthcare system now, its just gonna get worst. I find it hard to believe that we are the most powerful nation in the world and be can't get our healthcare situation organized. Some 3d world counties have better healthcare than us, I don't have anything against them, it just means we are doing something wrong. And for the people that say we need to worry about the economy more, healthcare is a HUGE part of the economy.

I think Obama is being too ambitious. Hes spending too much time into the health care reform. There are many other problems going on that should be taken care of. He should try to fix problems that he can ACTUALLY fix instead of wasting time and just letting the other problems get bigger. I do think that its dividing up the country. Its causing a lot of arguments and problems between people. The health care reform is important but in some ways its not as important as other issues like education or the economy. Obama shoud also focus on education and make it as important as the health care issue. This issue has been attempted before and it was not successful. So why does he think he can get the bill passed this time? I say he should put that aside for now and focus on education or the economy or getting people their jobs back. Then after thats fixed he should focus again on health care. He shouldnt be so focused on something he probably wont accomplish.

I don't think Obama is to ambitions. I just think he is trying to look for a solution for a big problem like health care. For what I read doctors are loosing a lot of money because hospital doesn’t have many patients as usual. Obama thinks that he can solve this problems and he is trying to find a way to do it. However I also think he is spending a lot of money of just one think and there is other thing to take care to. I know to that there are a lot of people with out insurances that wan health care but don’t have the money to pay it. I’m sure this issue is dividing our country in two. Those who know we need it and those who think we have other things to worry about. From one or other I hope this gets solve fast for those who really need it. But what I most agree is that the economy should get fist first.

Obama is being to ambitions with the health care reform. Also he don't have the back bone to end this. I say that because its getting pretty violent in the town hall meetings. Some people aren't even debating there throwing it down. I mean this is important but he has to hurry up and finish it so he can move on to the next problem. The next problem which i think is the most important of them is to fix the job situation. Also he has to get the auto industry running perfectly. Its good that he is ambitious but he should be like that with all problems that are going on. I also think that he should help the doctors set a price book like in china. If he would to do that we would start doing much better. At least that’s what i think.

Yes, I believe that Obama is being too ambitious. He is trying to push this bill that is just too long. I mean over 1,000 pages is outrageous. Of the people I interviewed for the survey, many were undecided on supporting it or not because they dont fully understand it. Too many different things are being said about it and its hard to know which ones I should believe. Some are saying that there will be a "death panel" while others are denying it. Some people are saying it will lead to a government takeover, while others are saying it wont. So who am I supposed believe? So, I do think that Obama is being too ambitious. And I do think that its dividing the country. Healthcare is a really big issue that a lot of people feel strongly about and they just cant seem to agree. Even the democrats are divided when it comes to this healthcare plan. So yes, I do think its dividing the country.

People are saying President Obama is being too ambitious about the health care reform. I disagree on this opinion because of his hard work and the media trying to get him off guard. I believe that President Obama wants health care in hope that our economy will improve and America will get out of the hole it’s in. With Obama trying to start small and work his way up with the bigger problems. The factor that Obama is facing right now is time. The votes for a health care reform plan are turning from back and forth on our president which puts the blame on him. Though health care is an important situation to handle one man can not simply make a quick solution. Their needs to be a full understanding vote from the government. What is the problem with people on different sides is the effect of health care and how it will effect everyone wither they understand it or not. But the president needs to be clear on his plan to reform the health care plan if he wants it to be properly understood and voted on in a positive way. Finally with the proper understanding about the reform should help voting and hopefully a stable economy which has been needed for too long

You cant hate for what he is trying to do, he met not be doing in the right way by trying to please everybody at once. all im trying to say is that at least someone is trying to fix the ecomony, it doesnt matter all at once or little by little all it matter that the subject is touched. the word ambitious means a aspiring, enterprising describe a person who wishes to rise above his or her present position or condition. The ambitious person wishes to attain worldly success, and puts forth effort toward this end: ambitious for social position. And thats what the pres. has all he wants is to fix the pro.(health care). so give him a chance to change the world!!!! so no i dont believe that obama is too amnitious torward health care there might be little bumps along the way but time with get us there!!! however americans need to but in effect too cause of health care. all you hace to do is be a little more careful in what you eat and work out to be in shape so you wont get sick and your body will be in good shape. so thats my take on obama take on fixing health care.

I do not think that the problem is arising from the fact that President Obama is being too ambitious. I think that the problem is President Obama is not the person fit to complete these ambitions. The problem began when he did not make his point clear by constantly making contradictory statements. This comes from the pressure of trying to fix all of America's problems at once. He did make a smart move by focusing on health care but the problem with that is it should have been done sooner. I think that this issue is indeed splitting America up but its about time that it did. If change is ever going to happen, there must be conflict at first. I am glad it's happening now before things got even worse. With the economy, the war, the health crisis, and the environmental crisis, it is pretty easy to want to try and find a solution to everything. Hopefully we can pull together as a people and be able to stride forward to the solution.

I believe that Obama is not being too ambitious about health care reform and he should probably be more aggressive about passing this.
I do believe that this is the number one issue at the current time so it is a "matter of necessity". This issue among with many others probably is diving people up but we can not just simply put things like this off because for so many people of this country need Health Care NOW. The Baby Boomer generation now in particular. They are all over fifty years of age and those without income are in a bad financial situation. It is even worse for the Baby Boomers than it was for the Greatest Generation because children do not even want to take care of parents in their old age so they are on their own. For many of these people, as of now they have no help from there children or the government...who are they to turn to? Should they be forgotten and left to die just because they are not "young" anymore? I don't think so. The least we could do as thanks for these people is grant them a basic necessity of life.

What is the point of a great economy or more jobs if we don't live to see it?

As of right now I believe that Obama is being to ambitious in the healthcare reform. What is occuring is that our country is being divided with the people who want healthcare reforms and the people who are starting to ignore it. We are already in debt trillions of dollars and to create this healthcare plan it will cost even more money. Obama is trying to get straight to just reforming the whole healthcare problem but it probably wont happen. What he needs to do is take baby steps and take it slow. We should do it like Japan does and have set prices so insurances wont rip us off. People dont have money to pay and the insurance companies just keep rasing prices. Just lowering prices and not making it free is a huge step that can help is out as a nation. If that occurs then we can unite and take it another step further to the healthcare reform. Thats what I think Obama needs to do.

I don't think president Obama is being too ambitious in reforming health care, this clearly is a matter of necessity. There are people who think that all president Obama wants is to desperately put health care under government's power or "his power". And evidently these people who complain about Obama's actions are part of the privileged class that can afford medical care, and what about the rest?.. These kind of people might also believe that our health care system is fine as it is right know and that we need no change. Some argue that we have shorter waits than other countries but if we think about it, it is just because we exclude millions of Americans from participation altogether, our lines are shorter because these people are not permitted to even stand in line just for the simple fact that they don't have a medical insurance. We pretend we are have a "government of the people, by the people, for the people," while we continue to deny the legitimate benefits of government to so many of our people and when government finally attempts to make a difference all we think about is that it is being too ambitious.! It might me that this issue is dividing the country, and so it clearly shows who cares more about money. Most people who are against a health care reform also mention that a government run plan will lead to socialism and all i can say is that if this be socialism, bring it on and do it right now!!.. this is a matter of necessity!

Based on the links, and class discussions, I think that Obama is trying to do "whats best for the people". Perhaps people should understand that Obama is a democratic-liberal president, wherefore new plans, ideas will be expected. In example right now the Health Care Univeral Plan, many republican conservatives are afraid that it will deduct their paycheaks, due to tax increase. The republicans have always thought that way, and will always try to go against something that will not be benefical for them. The country has always been "divided", because its a capatilist country; wherefore your either with the bussiness coporations, or are a part of the working class family. Maybe right now, we can actually see through the lines more because of the poor economy, but in my point of view there has never really been a "whole" America. President Obama is wanting to make a change, and at least he is taking a "postive" action, unlike our past president Bush who just kept sending troops and wasting money on the war in Irag. Isn't that kind of being ambitious too?

i think when health care became an issue thats when everything went wrong. and i do believe that we are experiencing alot of problems because when they took health care from people not many are seeing their doctor. and doctors lose out on alot of money. i dont think doctors should waste money on things that people dont need. i think we should divide health care.

Yes, I do believe that President Obama is being ambitious on reforming health care. But then thinking about it hes doing the best that he can do. Yes, it is a "matter of necessity". I absolutely think that the issue of health care is dividing this country. We are facing many problems because of the way economy is. So President Obama should start off with little things and work his way up to bigger issues. No human being should be refused health care. So why is President Obama being ambitious about reforming health care when hes not going to help every human being?

in my opinion, obama is being a bit ambitious. he has come up with alont of ways to make the US better, but he is not explaining it very well. for example, the health care system has many rumors surrounding it because obama isnt being very clear about things. he says illegal immigrants will not be covered in the new health care reform, but it is not mandatory to prove citizenship. also, he says that abortions will not be covered, but under the new system there are making more ways of allowing this to happen. obama is moving to fast, to fast that he dosent even have time to explain things. if he were to explain things better people wouldnt be so outraged with the universal health care proposal.

I do think that the president is being too ambitious. He needs to start with the little issues first then work his way to bigger problems. Also he needs to stop worrying about pleasing the people and start doing things that NEED to be done and the stuff that is not necessarily important.
