Concerning the current economic status, it is definitely not reasonable to pour our resources into this war. The war is killing us economically. We can barely afford a month as it is, let alone an extended period of time after. The resources should be going back into the country to preserve our economy before the war tears us apart. If this keeps going, it will be a matter of time before we end up like the 'indestructible' Roman Empire. You can only stretch your resources so far. I personally think we are doing more harm than good in Afghanistan. The more time we spend in there, the more dependent they might be of us to sort out their problems. That should be up to the Afghan people; with the proper democratic leadership.

Katie,

Interesting point of view concerning the Roman Empire. However, aren't there drastic problems with the Afghan government including President Karzai? If we don't finish what we have started, won't this be a huge victory for Al-Qaeda against the United States? What do you think?

In the long run, pouring huge amounts of money and resources into the War in Afghanistan will just worsen the current economic status of United States, though everyone would agree that unless the current military force can take hold of the situation and fight back against the terrorists then one could consider the fight to be brought back to America which would mean more horrible situations similar to 9/11. Though their might be a possibility of preventing this if we brought everyone back who is deployed in Afghanistan and reinforcing our economy here in order to deploy protective measures here to prevent another 9/11 and to become friendly with the Arabic world to show the other nations that were just as friendly as we used to be and to help show the citizens of the Arabic world that they don’t have to take the suppression.

Concerning the current economic status...Yes, we should definitely be staying in Afghanistan and stomp out terrorism's hold of it once and for all. By not doing so, we are only allowing them more leeway to re-group and plot further attacks on our great nation. Now this is not to say, we should try and fix all of their problems because we obviously have our own at home to worry about but a failure to focus on a HUGE issue that is staring us right in the face is just dumb. Obviously no one wants the war to continue but hey, it's war. It's never welcome in the first place but it is a necessary to insure our safety. Who knows maybe if we remove the terrorist threat from Afghanistan now, in the future their government will help us catch other organizations before they can even get their plans off the ground.

I believe that the current waar is taken uneccessary money from the U.S. Not only are we sending thousands of troops out there but along with it we are pouring millions of dollars every month. This was is coming about just like the Vietnam war. We have yet to see the spoils of war. Troops get wounded nd killed everyday. I belive that we are harming the already corrupt government. How do we expect to help another country when we are bearly scraping by. The war on terror and in Afghanastan is two wars we frankly cant win. The Taliban and other enemies will outlast the us moral and the support of the few public members that support the war. I as a future soldier can see first hand why the war is not going to help a corrupt country.

In my opinion i really don't think its reasonable for the United States to continue to pour economic resources into the war in Afghanistan. The reason i believe this is because we are using way to much money that we could and should be using on things like education, social security and health care. So no its not reasonable for the U.S to keep pouring resources into the war in Afghanistan. Considering the political scenario in Afghanistan, i believe that the United States are doing way more harm than good by trying to stabilize the country. This is because while we have had some success, we also have had hard times. We've also lost a lot of soldiers in the process of trying to stabilize the country. In conclusion i do believe that we are doing more harm than good in my opinion.

Considering the current economic status I think it’s not reasonable for the US to continue pouring resources into the war. The war is very expensive and we didn’t even call for it. The US is wasting a lot of money millions in just one month. We don’t have enough resources to do so. If we continue with war we are going to en d up really bad. Considering Afghanistan in the long run I think the US will do more good and try to stabilize the country. I mean America has to speak for human rights. America is trying to stabilize and precede a better opportunity.

I think that this war is making our economy worse. We should end the war in Afghanistan because we are pouring our resources into this war when we should be using them to better our economy. There are so many people without jobs and people loosing their homes and struggling to pay their bills. We should bring our troops back home and end this war instead of just having them their and using our resources there when we could be bettering our economy. I think that we are doing more harm to them than good, because we are just basically fighting their war for them. They will become more dependent of us in the long run. We have been at this war for 8 years now and we've been trying to better their government and it hasn't worked so might as well leave and find a way to better our country. Before we can help a different country we should help ours first.

I am aware of the rigged voting in Afghanistan. I just haven't paid enough attention to get the details. I know the gist of what is happening, but not much. Kinda happens when my parents only watch ABC7.
In all reality, we started with a plan to exact revenge on the terrorists. They killed about 3000 of our people, and we have already killed about, what, 2mil? Along with tearing down their own government? As long as we can fix the rigged elections, we shouldn't be messing with them any further. If they want to live under Islamic law, that's their choise, not ours.

I believe that the United States should use their money more in America to try to fix the economy than funding the war. We have been using millions of dollars every month to stabilize Afghanistan but yet we are still in the place. We should fund other things in America that will help our economy to be more stable. Also we are trying to fix their country by creating a stable government but yet there is very little progress. Even if we do fix it and leave what will happen after that, will it get corrupt again and be in point A again? We have been their for awhile and I believe that we are doing good for our country by providing safety from terrorist. Also by trying to stabilize Afghanistan we are helping the citizens to be in a safer country. Yet we should focus more in our country than the war because our economy is more important.

Our economy is in its worst state ever since the Great Depression. I'm sure that everyone knows this, and now to state my opinion. I believe that we shouldn't be dumping more money into this "unwinnable" war. I agree that this war is turning into another Vietnam war. We are losing troops and very good people over there every day due to this ridiculous war. I say we "leave with honor and our heads held high" after fighting the fight we have been at for eight years now. I believe that we are in fact doing more harm than good over there, due to the fact that we don't know who the enemy is exactly, and yes, we possibly are killing innocent people. I say we just need to focus on our OWN country and take care of our OWN government and get our OWN people on the right track. We have tons of homeless people wondering the streets with no food or shelter. If we weren't so focused on Afghanistan, then we could help our OWN people get their lives back in order. Seriously, even the way the Taliban fight is just like the Guerillas fought us in Vietnam. They shoot from miles away and then hide, or they ambush us with IED's or snipers.

From what is put out there for us to see that our economy is suffering it is NOT reasonable to pour our resources into this war.We should focus more on Creation than of Destruction.I don't know why were fighting the war for ,I don't know what to believe,im not putting any of my vital attention towards all this chaos and negativity. I don't even want to ,this war is killing us not just economically but emotionally and physically. These innocent kids out there fighting this war will suffer from guilt, anxiety and depression of such circumstances.Has Obama ever inquired that? The control of currency stated that in 2003 The interest in the U.S national debt will not be affordable in the next 10 years, this theoretically means total bankruptcy for the whole economy this is why inflation is sky rocketing and all debt is at record levels.and the government and fed are hammering new money to bail out the corrupt system. In that case I believe that the United States are doing way more harm than good by trying to stabilize the country.

Mukuria15 said...

No, it is not reasonable because to me we come first (Americans). I understand that this war started for the protection of this country’s citizens, but now I think that it is just a war that is unnecessary. You can’t help someone that doesn’t want help, so why don’t you help us (Americans) that need it. I believe that the Americans are doing more harm than good because they’re making themselves look bad. For example, in the Obama’s war video, the Afghanistan people actually told us, how can they cooperate with us when we’re not winning? We’re losing out there, in lives and in the morality of that country’s people. Us there in constant battle, disrupting the lives of the citizens, and not showing that we can win or that we can actually help them; how can we really stabilize their country, especially when we can’t even stabilize our own economy. Help is no help when the other party is silent to what they truly wish.

In my opinoin I think we shouldn't pour our resources in the war.It does not solve anything people are still going to disagree with eachother. We are facing many economic problems in our country and the war has contributed to it.We should have that money over here with people that are struggling with this economy.I think we are doing more harm than good because more and more people are dying each day. The more troops that are over there the more the taliban are going to retalliate.Every one should just come to agreement to end this. Its easier said then done but i believe this war has to come to an end now.

Putting a lot of money into this war will only worsen our current economic status. The war is just killing our economy, it's bad enough that we're already sending out many troops and on top of that we're sending out millions of dollars. This is a war we just can't seem to win and sending out the money will not help at all. The money we're sending isn't helping the war in Afghanistan. The money we're pouring out can be used for other reasons, such as education, social security ect. The war is expensive and the fact we're paying for a war that we didn't even ask for just seems useless. If the money is supposed ti be helping, then why are we still stuck in the same place? In my opinion we should help our country, before we try helping another.

Considering the economic status i dont think that we should pour our resources into the war anymore. Our economy is bad enough. We cant even deal with some of the things that are happening over here in the U.S like people losing their jobs and homes. I believe that the troops have been out in Afghanistan way to long for nothing why are we going to help people who dont want to be helped. I also think that we would be doing more harm stablizing the country. Since the people in Afghanistan are relying on the American troops what will happen when they leave. Everything might just go back to the same way it was before.

The War in Afghanistan is affecting the economy of the United States. Economists disagree whether this war will have a positive or negative long-term economic impact. Even including war-spending supplements and terror-war expenditures on top of the normal defense budget, today that number comes to about 6.2 percent of GDP. Lots of money is being spent on the war. Many people are being unemployed and businesses are also losing money. President Obama has said that he will send 30,000 more troops to the war the beginning of 2010 and will remove them by the end of 2011. I believe that this might work but then again won’t, the reason for that is because sending more troops from our country and our allies will help us have a better chance of winning the war. Also, if the troops are not sent then more problems can be caused.

Concerning our current economic status,it is still reasonable to keep pouring economic resources into the war in afghanistan. For one reason only, we and other nations may be in danger. This is why it is very important for the United States to stabalize the Afghani Government. The United States, however, must be precise and efficient in there plans and strategies because we can not stay in the war for to much longer. Only then will it be unreasonable to use such resouces on the war. We must go in accomplish a stable Afghani Government, stop al Qaeda momentum, help build a stonger Afghan security, create in the people the right political view or knowledge of to have or want a stabilize government, and then have a moderate move out. Now knowing reality all of these wont be 100% but if every task is met to an average level the people should be used to the reconstruction and begin to keep the process going. This should last no more than 2 yrs. After this point it becomes our greatest economic problem and we will start to dramatically suffer for it.

Considering the current economic status, no, but also considering the terrorist activities and our security, maybe yes. Because the current economic status is such that we cannot continue to pour our resources at the rate that we are rght now. And yes in the long run we will be affected even more if we continue like this. To cut back on this, America should first decide what it is trying to do. Does it want the Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups to be destroyed or does it want to setup a new government in Afghanisthan? According to me, our focus was to destroy terrorist groups in the beginning, not setting up a government there. And if we want to do that, then it is going to take even more resources and time. And after all why should we make sure that the government is set up, and should it have a democracy or any other type of government? Nobody asked America about what type of government it should have. And because of these wars, we are not able to recover from these economic crisis. So we should think again and finish our work there as soon as possible.

The United States is in a recession but we forget that as Americans we are extremely wealthy and that other countries struggle to keep their citizens from death that occurs from their poverty. We are spoiled, and although these money issues appear disastrous, in the view of the world our issues are mediocre. The Afghan people need America's help, FOX news stated that seven out of ten Afghan citizens support having U.S. troops in Afghanistan. The average citizens need us and if we pull out may of them would die, as did occur in Vietnam. We need to put our selfishness aside and continue the war, because in doing so lives are saved. The United States is is an aid to the people through protection and attempts at setting up a non-corrupt government, and if we succeed and stay until we are finished with that task more good would have come from our presence in Afghanistan. But with the time limit President Obama has set all that needs to be completed may not occur leaving harm to the innocent left behind. Terrorists began this war and America needs to finish it completely.

I think that it is unnecessary to continue to put resources into the war. We are spending so much on the war while our economy is getting worse and the war is still far from a resolution. Ina way, the war in Afghanistan has become similar to the war in Vietnam. It seems as if there in no way to resolve it. I believe that wheter we pull the troops out now, or at the end of next year, that we will always have enemies in Afghanistan and that there will always be corruption and conflict in Afghanistan. The American troops can help protect the people and fix the problems in Afghanistan but we cant permanently keep control of them.

To be quite honest I'm kind of conflicted on this issue, keeping in mind the current situation of the economy. Part of me wants this us as Americans to keep on giving resources to what feels like a never ending war. I feel like this because the current situation in Afghanistan to me it's horrible, I mean brainwashing children to think that it's okay to sacrifice themselves is just mind boggling to me and I feel like we could help them by strenghting their government. Another part of me wants us to get out since this war sometimes just feels unwinable. Realistically it's draining the economy and most importantly killing our soldiers. I go back and forth with this issue. I put myself in the shoes of the Aghan people as well as the Americans.

The economy is still at its lowest. If all the money is going to the war how is the nation suppose recover when there is no money to help it spin. Still in a rut how is the nation to get out of more than a trillion dollar debt? America should cut its losses until the economy is stabilized again and money is running. Vietnam is a terrible and tragic example.
Nixon kept up with the war after Kennedy's murder. In Vietnam men died by traps, mines and shootings from the skies. It sounds similar like the current wars. The men and women in Vietnam could be your enemy day and at night your enemy. It seems like America might have a repeat of the war they lost to once before.
In the end of war when the American public opinion won to get out South Vietnam and they fell. The people in Afghanistan are too afraid to speak and elections aren't fair. Well if they don't want help from well be it. Let them govern themselves.

I really don't know how the US is going to rebound from this. I do know that it's not going to be anytime soon. Oboma's plan to end the war in a year doesn't seem like a real goal in it's given time frame. I think it's too late to cut our loses now, maybe four or five years ago we could have gotten away with it.I think we should finish what we started and do whatever we have to get out. The only reason the US should be fighting over there is to stop any terrorists activity from coming back to us. It's not our responsibility to stabilize a country that doesn't want our help.I don't know even after training them to fight there own battles if they'd even pull it off with us gone. Maybe a few years after we leave it'll be as bad as before. The war is a big mess and will end badly. How long do we post pone the ending? The problems in the economy go far beyond the war on terror. Cutting our loses now, won't majestically fix all the unemployment and other problems we still have to deal with.

Considering the current economic status of the United States, I feel that it is resonable for the U.S. to continue using exonomic resources into the War in Afghanistan. If we pulled out of Afghanistan, then it would show to the people there, as well as the world, that terrorism wins, and that there is nothing we can do to stop it. A withdraw of troops from Afghanistan would only make conditions in America worse, because if we withdraw the 30+ thousand troops, then what will they do in America. Those men will need to go back to their jobs at their military base, and even find jobs outside of the military. Therefore, flooding our economy with the need of thousands of more jobs that can not be provided and mearly increase the number of unemployed people throught the United States. Also, if we leave the Afghan government to itself, then it well once again succomb to terrorists once again, and if that happens, then who in America or the rest of the world would be safe from terrorists attacks. If we pulled out of Afghanistan, that would show the terrorists that they can get away with whatever they want, thus making any future attacks/attemps even more bold can costly to the American people.

It is hard to choose whether or not the United States should stay in this war. I do not understand why the United States feels the need to get involved in other countries affairs. Yes, other countries may need help, but this also causes an abundant amount of problems for us as well. How can we help another country when we currently cannot help ourselves? Our economy has worsened more over the years because of this war. However, it would not be logical to pull out of Afghanistan right away. If we were to, it would give Al-Qaeda the chance to take over and them a huge victory. We would have to end the war slow and steady. Even though I believe we should not be involved in this war, we still need to finish what we started. If we pull out now, we will be identified as weak and weaken our security. I also believe that the United States would be doing more harm than good by trying to stabilize Afghanistan. We have been there for eight plus years and have not conquered a thing. What is the point of staying there in the future?

Considering the current economic status alone, it is not reasonable for us to continue to be involved in this war. The United States economy is in such a devastated financial state that we cannot afford to continue to prolong the war to any reasonable extent. If our country was not in a recession we would have the capably to fund this war without seriously harming our financial status. If we continue to pour all of our resources into the war then eventually we will run out of resources and money. If that happens the united states’ status among the rest of the world will diminish rapidly. Initially I believe we will be doing more harm than good by changing their government system. The majority of people do not like change to happen quickly, and the Afghans are no exception to this. The Taliban ruled them for such a long time that they are afraid to change to a new government that does not include them. The people fear the Taliban and what they will do if they support a change to a new governmental style. Eventually we will do good to their country and its stability, when we completely remove the Taliban’s active presence and their control over Afghanistan.

I think that we should stay in Afghanistan because they need to have the choice of their own Government with out threats. Concerning the economic status today i think we should still be fighting for the freedom of them. We need to think about others more than what only benifts us. Overall i dont think we can keep this war for a long time because of the huge debt this country has already. In the future i think we wont end up making their Government crash but rise. i think by getting a Good President set up in Afghanistan we can decrease a lot of this terrorism. We cant let teenagers get brain-washed into killing themselves to become a hero. We need to stop all of this quick and we cant just turn around and ignore it because it is not only America's issue it is a Global issue now.

I personally feel that with the United States current financial bind we should be wasting our resources on a war that is doing more good than bad. By staying in Afghanistan we are losing money, military personnel, and respect from other countries. These valuable resources that we are depleting are slowly but surely going to run out and what will we do when there aren’t any more left? I feel as its as if the United States isn’t looking for the people that attacked us on 9/11 but they are trying to make Afghanistan a smaller version of itself. The corruption in the Afghan government cannot be fixed just by the US running an election and trying to get the people to fight for their own rights. The type of corruption there needs to be worked out over years and years of time. I mean yea we are trying to do some good in the world but it just not working so well in our current situation. So in being in this country I feel like we are harming ourselves and that we are harming Afghanistan as well.

I believe that we shouldn’t be sending more troops in Afghanistan because I think that this war will never end but I also believe that if we just walk away that the Taliban will try to attack the U.S again somehow. Putting in more troops into Afghanistan will affect our economy greatly for one reason we are paying for all there weapons armor food and other utilities which will not help solve our economy but make it possibly worse. I fell that we should just keep the same number of troops in Afghanistan and work on our economy first I’m not saying forget about Afghanistan I just think we should have more attention on the economy in America first and then help solve the government problems in Afghanistan.

In my opinion i do not think we should be pouring all of our resources into the war in Afghanistan. Our economy is too fragile right now with America being in so much debt. I feel that the longer we wait to pull out of the Afghan war the more our economic status will change for the worse. We do not have the right amount of funding to continue to be in this war. I also do think the longer we stay in the war, the more harm we will be doing there as well. Once we have gotten into this war our original goal was changed. Now we are trying to change their way of government. In my opinion we should not be trying to force anything upon them, because in the end the Afghan people will end up doing what the want to anyways. We should just finish the job we went there for in the first place and show them how to create a democracy. That is pretty much all we can do for them, and once that is completed it is in Americas' best interest to pull out and end the war.

I think its doing harm rather than good wasting our money and having so many troops stationed in Afganistan. However, I think it would be ignorant to pull out, but it seems as though we havent made any progress. It has taken eight years and we still havent accomplished much what is another year an a half going to do. We are in a recession shouldnt our economy be more stabalized since were in war? I understand we want to establish a goverment for them, but i see it as it doesnt matter how much time we spend over there, there still going to attack, and the fact that there, there, is simply preventing it from happening much sooner.

Because of our economic status in the United States, we should not pour our resources into the War in Afghanistan. When the war first began, it was because we were protecting our people in America from the terrorists. Over the seven or eight years fighting, our goals have changed many times. The status of the war right now is not going to end very soon because there are so many different things we are trying to solve. We want to become positive that America will be safe, we want to help the government in Afghanistan, and we want to destroy Al Quaeda and the Talabon. Everything we have been doing for their country keeps on affecting us. Our resources are becoming fewer and fewer and because of our economic problems, we need to help ourselves first.

Considering our economic status, I certainly think it is reasonable for us to continue pouring economic resources into the war. Yes, we may be losing plenty of money, but then again if we stopped, what will happen to Al Qaeda? In my opinion, they will begin to grow bigger and stronger and if it ever comes down to that, there's no way of knowing what will happen from there. People may think that we are just wasting our time in Afghanistan, but if we think about it, we are fighting to protect our national security. Although there is still terrorism taking place, it looks like we may have minimized some of it. I think that in the long run, we will be doing more good by stabilizing the country.

I personally think we should drop these wars because we need stablize our economy financially. we are in major debt.. if we stay in afganistan we will be spending point less money that we can use to help us. the 9/11 attack's has been almost 8 years now, they are not going to find Osma Beliddan... he vanished.. we should pull out and think for our self's other than butting in other countries business..

I think it’s really complicated to decide on whether or not to stay in this war. But when I think about the pros and cons, I lean more towards staying in this war. President Obama wants to bring home all troops by 2011. I think that is a very hard goal to reach, a year seems so fast and way too soon. It makes me feel sad knowing that if we “pull out” of this war, it’s kind of like giving up, and does that mean that all the innocent people that lost their lives fought for nothing? I feel like we shouldn’t pull out. Pulling out makes us look extremely weak and will make our nation look very bad in the future. We should stay and fight for our people and finish what we started. I know that money is a very big issue and wars require so much of it, and I know that our economy is very bad right now but I think it is reasonable to put all this money into this war because it’s for a good cause. We are spending all this money to help troops fight for what’s right. Eight years into this war already and it would be a waste to just “pull out” we should stay and fight to make sure that our nation is free, and safe from terrorism.

I believe that we should not be putting all our resource into afghanistan.I strongly believe this because over here in the united states we are having crisis and we should be using our money wisely. Then putting money into this war will only worsen our current bad for our economy right now. It's bad enough that we're already sending 13 million troops and on top of that we're sending out millions of dollars.Where we are not even sure if were going to win this war. Also because afgahn people make it seem that they don't want to change. They also think that we are not cabale of wining the war.Meaning that we won't probaly. The money that we're useing can be used for other reasons, such as education, social security and to help our crisis out. Also we are trying to fix a country by creating a stable government but yet there is no progress. Even if we do fix it and leave what will happen after that. We have been their for awhile and I believe that we are doing good for our country by providing safety from terrorist and yeah were are doing something good for them. But we just can help out people who they really dont want our help. That is just wasting time and many other things. However we should focus more in our country than the war because our situation with the economy is more important then doing other thing.it might sound selfish but i belive that this time we should just backoff and do our best to certain level.

Even though America is going through an economic crisis, it does make sense to pour more economic resources into the War in Afghanistan. By not bringing an end to the Taliban influence, we will be sacrificing our safety which will prove more costly in the long run. Economic crisis, like the Great Depression and the 1970’s one, are not uncommon in the US history and we have been able to overcome those. I believe we will overcome our current situation as well and so the war should be given priority since it is the matter of national security for America and many other nations as well. Of course, it is not our job to fix the entire nation but we do need to do enough to protect ourselves. We can’t allow the Taliban to gain more influence and Al Qaeda to continue spread, and by helping them stabilize their country, we are helping ourselves. I do believe my opinion on this issue is somewhat biased because I am a Pakistani and it is painful to hear about Taliban terrorists attacks in cities where my family members live. However, America cannot afford another attack as well, and for this reason we need to send more troops to Afghanistan.

I think that the united states should not be spending so much money towards war.Because its affecting us in our economy.Especially by prices going up.the united states is spending way to much money over this war.Why can't the government or Obama pay for it.Instead of people that could bearly afford there own homes.Obama is sending over $33 billion troops to war.thats going to take so much money.Obama instead of helping the united states economy he is making it get worst by sending more troops.I just think that instead of the president paraniod about war he should worry about his own country losing money.

We cannot leave afghanistan again as we did in the 1980s with russia, that is the reason we are in this whole mess. Yes i agree given the current state of our economy it would be best to drop the ball and walk away but its just not that easy. These people are relying upon us to help them. As orionpax said "That should be up to the afghan people; with the proper democratic leadership" But the truth is there will be no democracy without our assistance. And in a roundabout way we are still influencing the economy due to many of our military personel having families and assets stateside they are still pouring their money into our economy. I think what he biggest propblem is; is the lack of support from us the free citizens of the United States towards our troops of liberty. WE are shining hope for all those without hope and most Americans want to turn them away for a couple dollars. It isnt right, we need to finish what we started and stand whole heartedly behind our troops and leaders.... even though they can be jackasses.
